Postdoctoral position

INSERM UMR 699 Renal Immunopathology, Receptors and Inflammation – Paris Diderot University

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Basophil and Immunopathology Laboratory of the INSERM U699 on Bichat medical school campus (Paris, France) to work on an ambitious project aiming to unravel the mechanisms by which basophils are involved in autoimmune diseases, especially in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Research Keywords:

Basophils, Lupus Nephritis, Immunology, Mouse models, Translational Research, Autoimmunity, Immunoglobulins, immune complexes.

Projects outline:

Basophils are rare leukocytes known for their involvement in allergies and parasite infections. Growing evidences show an important immune regulatory role of this cell population, especially in Th2 responses. We recently showed both in patients and in a mouse model of spontaneous SLE that basophils could control the development of lupus nephritis by promoting the production of autoantibodies and circulating immune complexes (Immunity, 2009, 30:533; Nat Med, 2010, 16:701). We then developed new tools to analyze basophil involvement in this disease and in other autoimmune disease. This project will aim to characterize genetically engineered mice to identify factors and markers allowing basophil contribution in the development of various autoimmune diseases. Developmental and functional perspectives in basophil biology will be a full part of the project.

Requirements:

Candidates should be highly motivated by immunology and immunopathology research fields and be willing to take on intellectual, scientific and technical challenges. The applicant should have a high quality research track record and strong experience in immunology, mouse models, translational research and/or nephrology. Experience in flow cytometry and confocal/two-photon microscopy will be appreciated. Preference will be given to candidates with less than two years of experience after her/his Ph.D.

To apply:

Applicants should send a cover letter with a brief statement of research experience, technical expertise and interests, a C.V., a list of publications and three references to Nicolas Charles (nicolas.charles@inserm.fr).
