Postdoctoral position on chemokine response in filariasis

Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle/INSERM UMR S-996, Paris/Clamart, France

Length of contract 18 months
Salary ≥ 2100 and < 2300 € monthly

Project Title: "Rle et potentiel thrapeutique du rcepteur de chimiokine CXCR4 et de son ligand CXCL12 dans la progression de l'infection filarienne"

We are looking for a postdoc with experience in cellular, molecular biology and statistical analysis to investigate the interplay between the CXCL12/CXCR4-CXCR7 chemokine/chemokine receptor axis and filaria infection. The postdoc will be most particularly dedicated to the analysis of the role and the therapeutic potential of this axis in early host responses (i.e. immune and vascular, in skin and lymph node) of mouse infected with filarial nematodes, using an integrated approach that combines multiple experimental tools. Funding is provided by the Ile de France DIM Malinf.
In this project, we will use the new WHIM syndrome mouse model and the well-established Litomosoides sigmodontis model of filaria infection, a parasitic nematode disease. The WHIM syndrome is a human pathology characterised by a gain of function of the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis associated with a massive leuco-neutropenia, lymph nodes anatomical anomalies, and an exacerbated cutaneous pathology in presence of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
As this project is interdisciplinary (immunology/parasitology/cellular biology) and will be developed in synergy with a team of scientists working in two different sites, the applicant abilities to work within a collaborative framework will be a key criterion during the selection process. Technical skills in microscopy, histology, cell culture, flow cytometry, image processing and qPCR, will be greatly appreciated. Training in experiments using murine models would be advantageous. The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic scientist, a good team-worker with exceptional potential.
The MNHN is a historic multidisciplinary institute based in the prestigious Jardin des Plantes in the center of Paris providing interactions with many experts in various fields. UMR-S 996 belongs to the Laboratory of Excellence in Research on Medication and Innovative therapeutics (LabEx LERMIT), is located near Hpital Bclre in the south of Paris, and provides high tech equipments for immune analysis as well as interactions with experts in immune responses.
Interested applicants should email curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, and references to both Drs. Coralie Martin and Franoise Bachelerie.
